YourBlackWorld: Lebron James Guarantees Gold in Olympics

Hey, you have to admire LeBron James, taking a cue from Rasheed Wallace and guaranteeing a gold medal for the U.S. at the Beijing Olympics.

Of course, we kind of miss the old days, when something like that didn’t have to be spoken in men’s basketball, because everybody knew it was going to happen.

That was a long time ago, wasn’t it? Now, LeBron might be going out on a limb when he made the promise in the new issue of Time. “Absolutely” is the word he used. Twice.

But his Team USA teammates don’t see what the big deal is.

“You know what, I’ve never really understood the big deal about guaranteeing a win,” Dwyane Wade told the Associated Press. “I mean, we all feel we’re going to win, so what’s the difference with him saying we’re going to win? …

“We all guarantee that we’re going to go over there and we’re going to win. We’re not guaranteeing we’re going to lose.”

And coach Mike Krzyzewski, when told of the guarantee: “That’s good. I hope he’s right.

“The thing is, if I guarantee it, then I can’t back it up. He has the ability to back it up. If he said it, then that’s our goal.”

So the pressure is on. Again.

“We don’t have a choice but to win gold,” James said. “That’s what we’re here for, so I believe in our team and I believe in what we can do out there.
